Development Team

Susan Gerik, M.D.
Susan is a professor in UTMB's Department of Pediatrics. Where she cares for infants and children with a variety of chronic conditions. As lead author Dr. Gerik was instrumental in the case design and development for this project.
Rodger Marion, Ph.D.
Rodger is a professor in the School of Health Professions. He provided overall direction for developing the case of Sam Cooper. He also filmed the three treatment visits and was the coordinator of the web development team of the UTMB Complementary and Alternative Medicine Project.
Victor S. Sierpina, M.D.
Victor is a professor in UTMB's Department of Family Medicine and was the Project Director of the UTMB Complementary and Alternative Medicine Project. He supported the collaborative efforts of the team, assured accuracy of information and resources, and consulted on case development and design.
Connie Silva, Ph.D., RN
Concepcion (Connie) holds certifications as a holistic nurse, a Healing Touch practitioner and instructor, and aromatherapist. She is the co-author of the case and has contributed complementary therapies information and linkages in the development of an integrative approach to the management of a pediatric patient with spina bifida. With her knowledge and expertise in holistic medicine and nursing, she has been a significant contributor to the design of the project.
Robert Francis, D.C.
Robert (Rob) is a Chiropractor in private practice in Pasadina, Texas. He is on the clinical faculty of the Texas Chiropractic College, and is the former Dean of Clinical Sciences of that institution.
Randine Lewis, Lic.Ac., Ph.D.
Randine is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist and has studied both Eastern and Western medicine. After attending Osteopathic medical school, she began her career in Traditional Chinese Medicine. She earned her graduate and post-graduate degrees in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, focusing on fertility, and performed her internship at the prestigious Dalian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.
Stan Shor
Stan was an actor, who played the role of Sam Cooper. After a sucessful career in civil engineering that involved supervising construction projects worldwide, Stan in retirement sought further adventures. One of his passions was being a standardized patient at UTMB. There he portrayed patients for health science students to practice their clinical skills. Stan passed away about a year after completing this role.
Kim J. Garges, M.D.
Kim is a professor in the Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
Chris Baker, PhD, PT
Chris is a professor in the School of Health Professions, UTMB. She has extensive experience in in early childhood intervention and directs a training program for physical therapy students who want to work with children in the public schools.
Jennifer Ellison, PT, Ph.D.,
Jennifer is a professor in the School of Health Professions, UTMB. Jennifer is an orthopedic physical therapist with an emphasis in rehabilitation of the spine, hip and shoulder. Kinesiology and Biomechanics..
Ron Williams, MS
Ron is an instructional designer and developed the evaluation aspects of the case. He is as also a member of the video production crew.
Darren Burns
Darren is a web designer in the Department of Family Medicine. He did most of the Active Server Pages programming, contributed to the technical development aspects of the case, and was a member of the video production crew.
Linda Hubbell, PA
Linda is a programmer analyst in the Department of Family Medicine. She coordinated the database design, and assisted with programming and technical development for this project.
